What are slabs in electricity billing?
Most Indian DISCOMs bill domestic electricity using telescopic slabs — tiered per-unit rates that rise as your consumption increases.
- Each slab has its own rate — for example the first 100 units might be billed at one rate and the next 100 at a higher one.
- Slabs are telescopic, not retroactive — only the units that fall inside a higher slab are billed at that slab's rate, not your entire consumption.
- The slab count resets every billing cycle — monthly, bimonthly or quarterly, depending on your DISCOM.

Common ANED bill traps
There's no single islands-wide grid
Unlike a mainland state DISCOM, ANED runs roughly 35 separate diesel power houses across the islands rather than one interconnected grid — supply reliability depends on your specific island's local power house, not a shared statewide system.
The jump above 100 units is large
ANED's rate nearly doubles from ₹2.75 to ₹5.00/unit once you cross 100 units — plan for a meaningfully higher marginal cost if your household regularly uses more than that.
Not every village is electrified via the conventional grid
Of 547 villages in the territory, 479 are electrified through conventional supply or solar power plants, and 68 uninhabited villages are not electrified at all — solar-served hamlets may have different billing arrangements than this calculator assumes.

Digital meters show a running total in kWh ("units") on an LCD display — write down the number before the decimal point.
