The Electricity Department, Andaman & Nicobar (ANED) traces its roots to 1926, when the British installed a 100 kW steam-driven generator at Ross Island, followed by DC generating sets at Port Blair in 1929. After Independence, two 550 kW steam turbines were commissioned at the Chatham Island power house in 1951.
