The Electricity Department, Lakshadweep (LED), electrified the islands gradually: Minicoy was the first, in 1962, followed by Kavaratti in 1964, Amini and Andrott in 1965 and 1966, and Bitra — the last — in 1982.
LED operates electricity service sub-divisions across the inhabited islands — Minicoy, Kavaratti, Amini, Andrott, Kalpeni, Agatti, Kadmat, Chetlat, Bitra and Bangaram — with its main divisional office headquartered in Kavaratti.
