Common BRPL bill traps
BRPL is not all of Delhi
BRPL bills only South and West Delhi. If your area is East, Central, North or North-West Delhi, your actual discom is BYPL or TPDDL, which may have different tariffs and processes even under the same DERC schedule.
The PPAC surcharge isn't in this estimate
Delhi's Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC) surcharge adds roughly 30% on top of energy charges and is not modelled here, so your real bill — above the free-unit tier — will run meaningfully higher than this calculator shows.
The free-unit benefit needs opting in
The up-to-200-free-units scheme is not automatic — eligible consumers must be opted in on their account. Check your latest bill to confirm the subsidy is actually being applied.
How the BRPL bill is calculated
Up to 200 free units, then a PPAC surcharge
Delhi gives opted-in domestic consumers up to 200 free units a month and half-price power for 201–400 units. But bills also carry a Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC) surcharge of roughly 30% on energy charges. All three discoms — BRPL, BYPL and TPDDL — follow the same DERC schedule.
How the Delhi bill is calculated
Delhi domestic supply is billed monthly. Consumption is split across telescopic slabs from ₹3 to ₹8/unit, each band charged at its own rate. A fixed charge of ₹100 per kW of sanctioned load applies.

How to read your meter
Digital meters show a running total in kWh ("units") on an LCD display — write down the number before the decimal point. To find your consumption for a billing period, subtract your previous reading from your current reading; that is exactly what the "Meter reading" mode in the calculator above does for you. Analog meters use a set of dial gauges read left to right — note the number the pointer has just passed on each dial.

Net metering explained
Net metering lets a rooftop solar system export surplus power back to the grid through your existing meter, which runs in reverse. At billing time, your DISCOM credits the exported units against what you drew from the grid — you're billed only for the net difference. About BRPL
The Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB), a state-owned integrated utility, was unbundled in 2002 after years of heavy technical and commercial losses. Its distribution business was privatised into three companies: BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL), and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL, originally NDPL).
BRPL serves South and West Delhi — about 30 lakh consumers across areas including Dwarka, Janakpuri, Saket, Vasant Kunj, R.K. Puram and Najafgarh — while BYPL and TPDDL cover the rest of the capital.
Does BRPL supply electricity to all of Delhi?
No. BRPL covers South and West Delhi only. East and Central Delhi are served by BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL), and North/North-West Delhi by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL). All three follow the same DERC tariff shown on this page, but billing and customer service are separate.
