Common JPDCL bill traps
This page models JPDCL (Jammu division), not KPDCL
If your connection is in Srinagar or elsewhere in the Kashmir valley, your supplier is KPDCL, not JPDCL — check your bill's issuing company. Both are usually approved under the same JERC domestic tariff, but confirm your own slab rates rather than assuming.
Fixed charge is load-based, not phase-based
Unlike many neighbouring states that charge a flat single-phase/three-phase fixed amount, J&K charges ₹10 per kW of your sanctioned load — a higher-load connection carries a proportionally higher fixed charge.
Deeply subsidised rates don't reflect the real cost of supply
J&K's domestic tariff of ₹2.45–4.60/unit is well below the actual cost of power procurement, with the gap covered by UT subsidy — a useful fact if you're comparing J&K's low bill to a neighbouring state and wondering why the difference is so large.

Heavily subsidised low tariffs
Jammu & Kashmir runs some of India’s most subsidised domestic tariffs — ₹2.45/unit up to 200 units — even though the UT buys power far dearer than it sells it. JPDCL (Jammu) and KPDCL (Kashmir) share the JERC schedule.

How to read your meter
Digital meters show a running total in kWh ("units") on an LCD display — write down the number before the decimal point. About JPDCL
J&K's Power Development Department was unbundled into five companies — J&K Power Corporation Ltd (JKPCL), J&K Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (JKPTCL), Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (JPDCL), Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) and a Ladakh power entity — following State Administrative Council approval on 23 October 2019. JPDCL itself was incorporated a week later, on 30 October 2019.
JPDCL distributes electricity across 10 districts of the Jammu division: Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Kishtwar, Doda, Reasi, Ramban, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur. The Kashmir valley is served separately by KPDCL, and Ladakh — split off as its own Union Territory in 2019 — is now served by the Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD).
Does JPDCL supply electricity to Srinagar or the Kashmir valley?
No. JPDCL covers only the 10 districts of Jammu division. Srinagar and the rest of the Kashmir valley are served by a separate distribution company, KPDCL — both operate under the same JERC-approved tariff framework but are billed by different entities.
