The Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD) was established after Ladakh was carved out as a separate Union Territory in 2019, following the reorganisation of the former state of Jammu & Kashmir. LPDD comprises three verticals — generation, transmission and distribution — and is the sole power utility for the UT.
